Second Presbyterian Church is a member nationally of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and, locally, of the Presbytery of East Tennessee. The congregation first began meeting in 1818, and has met at our Kingston Pike location since 1957. Education and expanded fellowship facilities for our 850 members were added in 1981 and 1989.
Our Mission
At Second Presbyterian, we are a congregation who centers our education around the Bible and we understand that it is our mission to bring people to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
We believe that we are called to ministries of outreach locally to those in need; and through our Diaconate, we seek to do such ministry.
Mission is both domestic and international -- and we have deep long standing mission efforts in Mexico, Nicaragua, as well as a Campus ministry at UT - Knoxville.
Our Vision
As Second Presbyterian Church, we understand ourselves to be called by God to do ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.
While we nurture the needs of our members and their families, we also seek to reach out in response to the needs of those around us and across the world.
As we go about our mission and ministry, we are guided by five core commitments which are:

• A commitment to being a compassionate and caring congregation, meeting the pastoral needs of members of all ages

• A commitment to sharing our faith, reaching out to visitors, and helping our church to grow in faith and numbers.

When & How Can I Join?
We receive individuals into membership every Sunday morning of the year.
The Session (The ruling elders) of the church will meet immediately following both of the worship services in the Pastor's library, to receive new members.
You may join this congregation by:
transfer of letter,
reaffirmation of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord,
or by profession of faith and baptism.
