Mission Statement:
We believe that children are 1st at 2nd. Children are the church today and not just tomorrow. Second Presbyterian Church therefore commits to taking seriously our baptismal vows to nurture all children in the Christian faith (see scriptures below). We also commit to creating safe and fun learning environments where adults and children alike share in ministry.
- Matthew 19:14: “Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
- Psalm 8:2: “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise.”
- Mark 9:37: “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.”
- Acts 2:39: “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God will call.”
- Ephesians 5:1: “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
2nd Street:
Second Street, with the combination of new technology, music, dance, small groups, games, and performance, seeks to provide a fresh learning experience. Iconic characters bring to the table identifiable situations that we can all relate back to our everyday lives. Within a stimulating fast-paced atmosphere we tie in and perform renditions of biblical stories to reveal God’s word and truth. We hope to engage and teach the children through dance and songs of value, worship, and praise. Second Street Theatre wants to provide good role models and weekly lessons that we can conduct with our families not simply in a church environment, but at home and in school. Come along for the ride! We’ll be waiting for you…….
Kidzserve
We also will begin a new experience for our children who are 4 year olds – 3rd graders called KidzServe. This will take place during the hours of worship 9:20-10am and 11:20 – 12:00. (The same program will be offered at both hours) The children will go with Heidi from the Sanctuary to the Chapel and then finish in the Large Preschool lunch room.
The purpose of KidzServe is to give the children at Second Presbyterian a hands on look at mission. By using music, a message, offering, prayer and a project that will impact the community and/or world.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 25:34-40
. . . And the King will answer and say to them, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”
KIDZ PRAISE @ 2nd
KIDz Praise is a concentrated and eclectic program of creative arts for children (Ages 4,5,6) and Grades 2-5.
As an arm of the Music Ministry at Second Presbyterian Church, KIDz Praise is mainly designed to compliment the new 2nd Street KIDz Serve curriculum, where children will be exposed to a week-to-week rotating menu of music/choir, beginning handchimes/bells, Orff, art, and drama. The goal of this model is to involve and prepare children to be lifelong participants in the music ministry of the church. Provisions will also be made for 6th graders with musical aptitude to be involved where applicable in specific areas.
WHEN: Begins September 16 with the Wednesday Night program @ 6:15 PM – following the supper. Be watching for more details and get your child involved this year!
