THE CRISIS IN HAITI

99f420705b1580c8

OUR RESPONSE

The crisis in Haiti has called to all of us. Many of you have asked what we as a church are doing.  Below we have listed a few opportunities that the Mission Committee has identified. Our efforts are focused on financial gifts, mobilizing supplies and hands-on support.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)

Monies for hygiene gifts and their distribution.

Make checks payable to “Second Presbyterian Church” and on memo-line write “PDA”

For more information, go to www.pcusa.org/pda

MOBILIZING SUPPLIES: Orphanage in Haiti

Katie Landon, a new member to Second, is Director of Program Growth for an international children’s ministry called Rice Bowls (www.ricebowls.org). It is a worldwide outreach that provides care and support to children. They are involved in an orphanage in Haiti that was destroyed.  All of the children survived and have been relocated.  We will be working with Katie and her organization to provide tangible goods for these children and their families. Katie will speak to us on Sunday about Rice Bowls and their needs in Haiti.

HANDS-ON SUPPORT: Assessment Team and future Mission Team

We are looking for individuals to participate in a small assessment team to visit the situation in Haiti and scout out projects for future mission teams.  This team will depart in the next 30-60 days.  If you are interested in participating please contact Brittany Hopper (bhopper@2ndpres.org) or call 523-2189
