NEED A WIN
Dear Blog Friends -
I"m baaaack! I have been away writing and finishing my dissertation (another blog subject). It is finally in and ready for a defense next month. The focus of this blog has been to talk about the relationship between sports and faith.
Why? We live in Knoxville, TN. The University of Tennessee (go big orange!) is the heart-beat of the town. Everything hangs on the movement (up or down) of the Vols. Like these past four weeks, the mood around the town, and even in our worship gatherings, has been heavy on the brink of despair. I know there are many who say that Americans are way too caught up into sports - especially college football here in the SEC. But, speaking to a community, immersed in the highs and lows of a team is very different, challenging, interesting and fun.
Fans are dissapointed, because everyone wants to win. However, I feel for Derek Dooley and his staff. They must continue to go forward, appeasing a rabid fan base and still developing these players in the toughest conference around. Preaching patience is one thing. Practicing it ... another!
How are you doing today with patience? Patience is one of the fruits of the spirit. Yet, patience does not mean just sitting around doing nothing. It means being faithful to what the Lord has called you to do (prayer, study, reflection, and worship) and leaving the results up to God.
Talk with you soon.
Bryan
