Randy Dill, Director of Music Ministries

dsc05964fxsmlRandy Dill has served on staff at SPC as Director of Music Ministries since 1999. Originally from Evansville, Indiana, Randy is a graduate of Southern Seminary School of Church Music, Louisville, Ky (M.C.M. 1977) with undergraduate studies in music education from The University of Evansville and Campbellsville University, (B.S. 1973). Before his seminary years he was a teacher and Choral Director at Apollo High School in Owensboro Kentucky and the Oldham County Schools of LaGrange.

Prior to coming to Second Presbyterian Church, Randy was Minister of Music in Knoxville, and served in several medium-large congregations in both Presbyterian and Baptist traditions in Kentucky and Arkansas. Randy, and his wife, Jane, who is a music educator in the Knox County Schools, have called Knoxville their home since 1993. Jane, also serves as the Orff Children’s Choir Director at Second Presbyterian. They have been married for twenty eight years and live in West Knoxville.

What Randy loves most about Second Presbyterian Church and being “Presbyterian” is the rich heritage and diversity it offers. He values the universal nature of music while valuing excellence and integrity in church music. Most of all, Randy strongly believes that musicianship within a church setting is modeled best when it is committed to honoring God and Jesus Christ – and not just presenting music as art, for the sake of art.

His experience and love for leading a church music ministry is only superseded by his passion for fine photography which he claims is only a serious hobby and avocation. None the less, he has had several published images in the religious media market. As an avid student and lover of hymnology, Randy is often kidded about his extensive collection of nearly 300 antique hymnals which he has acquired since seminary days.
