Volunteering

We have many volunteer opportunities at the church, and we are also involved in some volunteer activities within the Knoxville community.

“SECOND SERVE”

SECOND PRESBYTERIAN ADOPTS WEST VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

westview_e_006

By adopting this school as a small piece of Knoxville where we can love our neighbors, we will seek to fill those needs.  There will be ways for each of us, young and not-so-young, to serve God by serving the children of this school.

Donation Items Needed:

  • 360 large boxes of kleenex
  • 180 gallon size ziploc bags (any brand)
  • 450 bottles of hand sanitizer

Please bring any of these items to the church and put them in the bins at the West View school display & sign up tables.

Church Office Volunteer Opportunities:

If you are interested in volunteering in the church office there are several areas that are needing your help.

Office Assistance: We are needing a few office volunteers who are computer savy.  Please see Pam or call the church if you are interested.

Newsletter help:  Assist in folding and labeling the 2nd Edition newsletter and get it ready for mailing.  Sometimes this is a last minute job, so let us know how best to reach you (home or cell phone).  Many hands make light work for everyone!

If  you have never volunteered, or never known what the church needs are this is a great time to come help out in the office.  We would love to see some new faces!  Training and lunch provided! To volunteer for any of these please call the church office at 523-2189.

FISH Food Pantry

The FISH team of volunteers meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month to receive emergency food requests, purchase and pack bags, and deliver food to hungry families in Knox County. There are many ways you can help this process. Contributions can be made to the FISH Fund through the church financial office or specific items can be purchased and brought to the church.

We also need additional persons to serve as deliverers in teams of two.

If you can volunteer for an hour or two between 9:00am and 1:30pm on the 4th Tuesday of each month, please call the FISH coordinator, Lynda May or Call the church office for more information.

Volunteer Ministry Center

Members of Second Presbyterian Church, as individuals or in groups (such as Sunday School classes), volunteer to prepare and serve meals twice a month at the Volunteer Ministry Center of Knoxville.

Volunteers are always needed and welcome to help with breakfast and  lunch on the third Saturday of every month. The group meets at the church at 10:30am to load up the food for lunch, which is provided by the church, and take it to the VMC to be prepared and served to the homeless.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are laypersons trained for caring ministry in and around the congregation.

Stephen Ministers provide one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge.
