Serving our Church Family

We have many volunteer opportunities on Sunday Monrings, including those listed below. Contact the church office to get plugged into your area of interest.

Ushering
Help us to hand out Worship Bulletins and collect the offering.  We ask that all ushers arrive 15 minutes before services begin. 

Greeters
Greeters are located at the church entrances and greet our congregants as they come in.  They also help new visitors become familiar with the church in finding the Sanctuary, Child area, and Sunday School.

Children's Ministry
Our kids our incredible and so are our Children's Ministry volunteers. if you love kids and love Christ, we want you to serve in our Children's Ministry. You can:

  • Volunteer in our nursery every other month
  • Lead an elementary small group on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights
  • Help with special events like VBS or Family programs
  • Serve as a "buddy" for a child with special needs

Church Office Volunteer Opportunities:
If you are interested in volunteering in the church office there are several areas that are needing your help. Please email  or call the church office, (865) 523-2189,  if you are interested in any of these opportunities.

  • Office Assistance: We are needing a few office volunteers who are computer savy.  
  • Bulletins: Come on Friday afternoon and help get the bulletin ready for Sunday. It doesn't take long but makes a big difference for Sunday mornings.
  • Newsletter & Mailings: Assist in folding, labeling, and preparing the 2nd Edition newsletter each month.  Many hands make light work for everyone!

Library
Help the Librarians put book information into a computer database.  Contact the church office, Bettye Gilreath or Liz Peebles if you would like to help in our church library.

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers are laypersons trained for caring ministry in and around the congregation.

Stephen Ministers provide one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge.

Please call the church if you would like to be involved in the Stephen Ministry, or if you would like a call or visit from one of our ministers.

Music Ministry
There are many opportunities to share your love of music at Second Presbyterian:

  • The Worship and Music Ministry Team meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 PM in Fireside Room
  • Chancel Choir meets on Wednesdays, at 7:30 PM in Room 214
  • The Contemporary Praise and Worship Team rehearses Wednesdays, 7:30PM and Sundays, 8:00 AM, contact worship leader, , (865) 523-2189 ext. 230, for more information
  • J.O.Y. Singers- "Just Older Youth" meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 10:00 AM in Room 214
  • Chancel Ringers meet on Wednesday, at 4:45 PM in Room 220
