God calls us to work and witness in our community by rolling up our sleeves and getting involved with the good works happening all over our community. Here are some ways you can make a difference.
FISH Food Pantry
The FISH team of volunteers meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month to receive emergency food requests, purchase and pack bags, and deliver food to hungry families in Knox County. There are many ways you can help this process. Contributions can be made to the FISH Fund through the church financial office or specific items can be purchased and brought to the church. We also need additional persons to serve as deliverers in teams of two.
If you can volunteer for an hour or two between 9:00am and 1:30pm on the 4th Tuesday of each month, please contact the FISH coordinator, Lynda May or call the church office, (865) 523-2189, for more information.
Volunteer Ministry Center
Members of Second Presbyterian Church, as individuals or in groups, volunteer to prepare and serve meals twice a month at the Volunteer Ministry Center (VMC) of Knoxville.
Volunteers are always needed and welcome to help with lunch on the third Saturday of every month. The group meets at the church at 10:30am to load up the food for lunch, which is provided by the church, and take it to the VMC to be prepared and served to the homeless.
The University of Tennessee.
We love college students. There are lots of opprotuntites to serve students who study just one mile away, at the Univeristy of Tennessee.
- S.O.S—Service on the Strip—serving pancakes from 11pm -1am on Friday nights with a home UT game.
- Prayer - You can adopt a student in prayer. It makes a big, big difference to them!
- And more!
Contact Ethan or Brittany in the church office, (865) 523-2189, for more information on serving our growing college ministry.
