John Lasater began piano lessons at age 6 and moved to the organ at age 13. He first studied with J. E. Turner at Bradley University (Peoria) and continued those studies with Helen Midkiff at Belmont University (Nashville). He continued studying with Mrs. Midkiff through his senior year at Belmont. During his years there, he became Organist at First Baptist of Hendersonville, where he remained for over 33 years.After graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics, he began his career in the telecommunications industry. He met his wife of 44 years, Jan, while at First Baptist and they had two sons, Drew and Jay.He later became Organist at First United Methodist of Springfield; he also took an early retirement from telecommunications and began teaching high school Math and Physics. He retired from Sumner County Schools in June of 2021.With the passing of his wife in March, John moved to Knoxville to live with his son, Jay. He recently became an Educational Consult with Cambridge Educational Services, focusing on school and district strategies to help students improve their ACT scores.
